Avondale Estates was founded in 1924 and officially incorporated three years later. In September 1955, local restaurateurs Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner opened the first Waffle House on East College Avenue in Avondale Estates.
The AHC will celebrate its centennial the same year America will enter its 250th. The first exhibition of the centennial, from March 27 to April 12, will bring the Freedom Plane to Atlanta, connecting the two anniversaries by displaying a selection of America’s founding documents from the National Archives.
Residents can request a ride through the MARTA Reach app or reservation line, which provides a pickup window of 30 minutes or less. The service will operate 18 hours a day, seven days a week.
The breakfast and brunch restaurant, owned by Chef Hudson Rouse, will close after 10 years on North Avondale Road. The restaurant will offer its final service on March 29.
